Why Is Process Art a Big Deal?

Updated: Mar 4, 2019

You hear a lot about process art, but what is it exactly and why should you care? Young children under the age of eight are still learning how to use their hands and fingers and gripping a paint brush helps them develop their fine motor skills so they can write. Process art is a focus on the process and not the end result of an art project. It's about the actual creating and the benefits children get from exploring and creating without the stress of making something perfect. According to Meri Cherry, of mericherry.com "children don’t need to be told what to do, they need to be given rich experiences to explore and engage in.  Children are capable beings that given the opportunity will continue to raise the bar on their own learning and development."
